Yesterday marked the dedication and first birthday of my nephew, Adrian. She’s my older sister’s son, my first immediate nephew, and the first grandchild in the family. He was born in Michigan, where my sister and brother-in-law have been based since 2004.
Aside from the very reason of the celebration itself, yesterday’s affair brought together many relatives from both sides of the family. But what I truly appreciate is that my family is complete again after almost four years. We’ve spent the last years just communicating via e-mail, webcam, instant messaging, or by phone. So what a great pleasure really it is, to be on the same picture — thanks to FabFoto, which we hired to make the occasion a lot more fun. It’s said that a picture says a thousand words. Still, it cannot completely capture the joy we’ve all felt being physically together again as one family.
I am sure to look back at April 26 as one of the happiest days, if not the happiest — moments that no amount of fortune, fame, or success can buy.
